ESPN believe we are considering activating Aaron Mooy’s buy-back clause in a bid to bring the midfielder back to the Etihad.
They say Mooy’s performances in the World Cup have grabbed the attention of City’s scouting department, with Everton, West Ham United and Southampton also interested.
Peter O’Rourke writes: “Manchester City are considering a move to re-sign Aaron Mooy from Huddersfield Town, sources have told ESPN FC.
“Mooy joined Manchester City in the summer of 2016 from sister club Melbourne City, but never played a game for the team before being loaned to Huddersfield for the 2016-17 season.
“The combative midfielder, who finished as one of the top tacklers in the Premier League last season, impressed during his season on loan at Huddersfield helping them win promotion to the Premier League and the team made his loan move permanent in a deal rising to £10 million last summer.

“As part of the deal City included a £20m buy-back option and sources have told ESPN FC they could activate that following his impressive performances at the World Cup for Australia.
“The likes of Everton, West Ham United and Southampton are also weighing up moves for Mooy as they look to bolster their midfield options ahead of next season.”

Meanwhile, Stuart Brennan of the Manchester Evening News says Barcelona and Real Madrid - two sides notorious for getting their own way in the transfer market - are no longer in a position to sign City players on their own terms.
“City have worked hard at that “non-seller” tag, repeatedly killing any notion of their front-line stars leaving, and ensuring that they are happy from the point of view of football, finance and personal life,” Brennan writes.
“That is why there has been no flurry of transfer rumours surrounding Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and the other City Centurions.
“It is strange that a team that lit up the Premier League and earned itself a big reputation around the globe has not been at the heart of the transfer speculation merry-go-round.”
