The Blues head into Saturday’s Continental Tyres Cup clash on the back of two successive draws with Liverpool, having won every game beforehand without conceding a single goal.
The forward, who has become an integral part of Nick Cushing’s attacking line-up, is relishing the tie and says a new competition provides the perfect opportunity for a fresh start.
“It’s always good to get another cup run started,” she told mancity.com. “Obviously, the FA Cup has finished now and unfortunately, we didn’t get to the final so we’re hoping to do so in this competition.
“Our last two games have been draws so we need to get back to winning ways and there’s no better way to do that than in a new competition.
“Of course, we want to win every game and we haven’t had a long wait in between games so we’re ready for it.”
City’s opponents in the cup are WSL 2 outfit Aston Villa. With the Blues eager to rekindle the winning feeling, Parris has warned against complacency.
“We’ve seen what the underdog can do in football and there’s no reason shocks can’t happen,” she added.
“I’m expecting them to bank up. I can’t really see them coming out and trying to play against us but fair play to them if they do.
“I feel there’ll be a lot of long balls so we’ll have to get the second balls down and make sure we play and avoid going long. Otherwise, the game could be more like a game of basketball than football.
“We’ll try to instil or game early on and if they come at us, we’ll try and override it to make sure we get the win.”
As if Cushing’s side needed further incentive, it has been revealed the final of the tournament will be held at City’s Academy Stadium.
Reacting to the news, Parris stated: “We don’t want other teams coming here and playing a final on our pitch. We don’t want to be watching another team lift a trophy on our home ground.
“We all want to be there and we’ll be thereabouts as long as we rediscover ourselves and become the City we all know.”
The forward has impressed this season, having become a major attacking threat down the wing. Her displays have also earned a first call-up to England’s senior side.
In just her second appearance, she netted a brace and hopes those strikes were the first of many.
“An England debut it what dreams are made of and to score for your country is unbelievable,” she said. “Hopefully, now I can push on for City and make more regular international appearances.
“I got an email and I had to re-read it over and over again, making sure it said ‘selected’ and not ‘standby’. I was so happy.
“I think my form has been pretty consistent this year. Throughout a season, there are always times where you don’t have your best performance but it’s important to come back with a better performance in the next game and push yourself and your teammates whether you’re in the team or on the bench.
“Last year, I had more goals but this year, I’ve created assists too. I’m playing in a wider position and I’m pleased to be able to help the likes of Jane Ross and Toni Duggan get on the scoresheet.
“I hope we can all chip in with goals. We need everyone to be in the scoring way so we can stay top of the league.
“We’ve lost points in our last few games but at the end of the day, we have the chance to beat our nearest challengers Chelsea both home and away so we’re in control of our own destiny.”
