Winning every game since the World Cup, in which City had five representatives playing for bronze-medal winners England, the Blues have a 100% record in the second half of the season.
Karen Bardsley, Steph Houghton, Lucy Bronze, Jill Scott and Toni Duggan rejoined the squad, who had been training hard over the course of the mid-season break, just days before the Club’s FA Women’s Super League clash with Birmingham.
After grinding out a victory against the Solihull outfit, City have gone on to win four on the bounce.
During that run of triumphs - three of which were away from home - Nick Cushing’s side have scored nine goals, conceding just once, and they aim to continue their fine form on Wednesday night when Durham Women visit the Academy Stadium in the Continental Cup.

City 1-0 Birmingham
In the first game back from the break and with just a few days’ worth of preparation behind them, City returned to winning ways in the league with a hard-fought three points in front of a record crowd of 2,102.
Duggan’s solitary second-half goal proved enough to separate the sides but in truth, the result could - and should - have been more flattering.
The winner arrived on 55 minutes as Scott battled her way through the visitors’ defence before crossing for Duggan at the back post and the striker had the easy task of slotting home to earn the victory.
Bristol Academy 0-3 City
Buoyed by the triumph over Birmingham, Cushing’s side made the long trip to the Stoke Gifford Stadium and ensured the journey was very much worthwhile.
After Duggan broke the deadlock with a long-range stunner, which crashed in off the bar just before the half-hour mark, there was no stopping the Blues.
In an excellent performance which saw City produce some irresistible football at times to carve open the hosts’ defence, the visitors went on two score two more and cruise to an impressive win.
Duggan netted her second, sweeping home Nikita Parris’ deflected attempt, before Daphne Corboz scored her first goal for her new club, finishing off a wonderful team move to put the icing on the proverbial cake.
Doncaster Rovers Belles 0-3 City
The Blues kicked-off their Continental Cup adventure at the same place they did last season - at the Keepmoat Stadium.
However, while the 2014 encounter ended in defeat, this one would prove much more enjoyable as City produced a thoroughly dominant performance to put themselves top of Group Two on goals scored.
Isobel Christiansen opened the scoring, volleying home Demi Stokes’ delivery, before Parris tapped into an empty net and Duggan completed the rout late on to seal an excellent win against the FA WSL 2 leaders.
Chelsea Ladies 1-2 City
In arguably the best result of the season, City left it late to snatch all three points at Wheatsheaf Park, as a deflected Houghton free-kick four minutes from time clinched a win in Staines.
The visitors had taken the lead on 12 minutes through Duggan’s fifth goal in four games, as the striker collected Corboz’s floated through-ball before side-footing into the top corner.
Three minutes after the restart, the home side pulled level through Eniola Aluko - but just as the game looked to be ending in stalemate, Christiansen was felled on the edge of the area and up stepped the captain to take aim. The shot was goalbound but received a helping hand on route as Claire Rafferty headed into her own net to gift the away side the victory.
