New signing Jane Ross bagged four and Jennifer Beattie scored another in the Scots’ 10-0 triumph over Macedonia, while Jill Scott netted the winner in the Lionesses’ narrow win over Bosnia.
The results ensure both sides continue their 100% records in Groups 1 and 7, with Anna Signeul’s side leapfrogging Iceland into top spot. England rise to second.
Ross expressed her delight at her side’s achievement - and her own - but despite her goalscoring exploits, admitted she could have added more to her tally.
She reflected: “I had a few opportunities in the first half - some I could have done better with and others that, with luck the other way, could have been goals.
“It was a good team performance in the first half and we were happy to go in 6-0 up at half-time.
“It’s always nice to score goals - and we had so many different goalscorers. We can be happy with our performances in both halves.”
The striker took less than three minutes to open her account in Paisley, nodding in Hayley Lauder’s cross before Joanne Love doubled the lead five minutes later.
Ross then headed against the bar before Beattie prodded home the Scots’ third of the afternoon - and further goals from Lauder and Lisa Evans, plus another from Love, gave the hosts a 6-0 half-time lead.
Signeul’s side continued where they left off after the break, with Love netting her third and Ross her second, latching onto Lana Clelland’s through-ball and slotting under Viktorija Doneva.
Two minutes later, she ensured there would be an argument over who keeps the matchball as the same combination ended with the same result - Clelland squaring for Ross to tap into an empty net.
Beattie, Clelland and Leanne Crichton all sought a tenth before Ross found it with three minutes of normal time remaining, volleying Kim Little’s floated ball through the goalkeeper to complete the scoring.
Meanwhile, in Bristol, England celebrated their homecoming after collecting a bronze medal in the World Cup with a hard-fought win over Bosnia.
Four City stars were named in Mark Sampson’s starting XI at Ashton Gate, with Karen Bardsley, Steph Houghton, Demi Stokes and Isobel Christiansen receiving the nod. Scott and Toni Duggan emerged from the bench, while Lucy Bronze missed out with a slight knock.
The hosts dominated from start to finish but struggled to find a breakthrough until Scott was introduced. Having received recognition before kick-off to commemorate earning 100 caps for her country, the midfielder made a key impact and proved the matchwinner, heading Eni Aluko’s cross under Almina Hodzic.
While many had predicted a high-scoring affair, that strike would prove to be the difference between the two sides, ensuring the Lionesses clinched two wins from two.
Bardsley and Stokes completed the full 90 minutes, while Christiansen was replaced by Duggan on the hour-mark and Houghton came off with six minutes left.
