The midfielder, who earned her first call-up to England’s senior squad last month, capped a memorable few weeks by scoring the winner in the 2-1 victory over Notts County, which clinched Champions League qualification.
Netting six goals in her last seven games, the 24-year-old played a starring role in the Blues’ title push and believes her side will be challenging for all honours next season.
Speaking after the final day triumph, she told mcfc.co.uk: “First and foremost, I’m pleased we finished the season on a high.
“It was a really highly-contested game and I’m delighted we came away with three points and secured Champions League football for next season, which is a massive achievement for the club.
“We’ll go away now and rest and come back next season ready to challenge for trophies.”
City headed into the clash still in title contention - but they needed table-topping Chelsea to slip up. As it happened, the Londoners romped to victory, and while Christiansen was disappointed her side missed out on the league crown, asserts the Blues should be proud of an excellent season.
“The record since the World Cup speaks for itself,” she continued. “We’ve been pretty formidable going forward and the team has been solid at the back, showing what a driving force we are.
“We’re gutted that Chelsea didn’t slip up but we just controlled what we could control and that was to try to win.”
On the subject of her individual performance over the campaign, she also expressed her delight, adding: “It marks an exceptional year for me. When Alan Mahon, our assistant coach, said he thought I could get ten goals a season, I laughed in his face!
“I almost achieved that - perhaps if I’d been a bit more clinical at the end, I would have - but I’m so happy with nine and I’m pleased for the team and the way they performed.
“There have been goals across the team this season and I’m delighted to be part of that.”
In addition to securing a place in the top two for the first time, City also made history off the pitch, as a league-record crowd of 3,180 showed their support at the Academy Stadium.
Christiansen was thrilled with that figure and hopes to see similar ones in the future, highlighting the 2015 World Cup as the reason behind the increase.
“I’m running out of superlatives to describe how effective the World Cup has been for women’s football,” she smiled. “We’ve shown that here at City - we got the highest attendance the WSL has had and that’s incredible.
“Our support is amazing and if we can get anywhere near that again next season, it’ll be even more of a pleasure to play for this club. The fans deserve recognition for the way they’ve turned out in numbers and given us the support we deserve.”
