Izzy Christiansen is in contention for Manchester City Women's trip to Notts County.

The PFA Players’ Player of the Year missed the Blues’ last two games with a quad niggle but is set to return to action at Meadow Lane.

A crucial component in Nick Cushing’s side, the midfielder’s return provides a welcome boost as City aim to extend their lead at the top of the Super League table.

The England star admitted she has had to endure another frustrating period after a lengthy injury sidelined her from March to May, but hopes to maintain her fitness from now on.

She explained: “I was due to play in the Liverpool game but the night before, I realised further damage would set me back so I made a professional decision to withdraw and I knew it was the right one.

“It was a cumulative issue - I think it was my body’s response to returning to full training and playing post-injury. It was a bit of a knock-on effect.

Hopefully the injury worries are behind me. I’m feeling good and strong, and I’m ready to be selected for the game.

Previewing Sunday’s clash, Christiansen declared she expects a similar encounter to the Blues’ previous visits to Nottingham - both of which have ended in draws.

“It will certainly be a difficult game,” she told ManCity.com. “They’re a really good side with a strong contingent of internationals.

“Of course, we’re yet to win there but putting that record aside, wanting to go there and get three points is at the top of our agenda anyway.

“It’s a very tough place to go to - not just for ourselves. Other teams have had trouble playing Notts County on their home ground.”

Other results have allowed the league leaders the chance to regain a strong points advantage at the top of the table, though Christiansen insists City are not concerned with the chasing pack.

“We focus on ourselves,” she asserted. “Every team in the league is going to drop and gain points throughout the season.

“For us, it’s about eradicating this break we’ve had of three weeks without a game. Such a
long time without a game is mentally quite difficult to handle, although we have done that well.

“We need to make sure we’re all fresh and ready for the game on Sunday, so we can go there and get a win.

“Regardless of whether I’ve been injured or not, I’d be hungry to succeed and so well for the team. We’re all raring to go.”
