Jane Ross is looking to continue her impressive scoring form in Sunday's trip to Notts County.

Manchester City Women’s top scorer has bagged eight goals in 12 appearances in her debut campaign, including three in her last two games.

After three weeks without a match, the Blues travel to Meadow Lane looking to increase their lead at the top of the Super League table.

The Scotland international, who also tops the English game’s scoring charts in all competitions, cannot wait to return to action - particularly in such a crucial clash.

“We have a massive game this weekend,” she told ManCitycom. “We’re obviously looking forward to getting back playing first and foremost.

“It’s been a few weeks since our last FA WSL game and as always, we’ll be going into the game looking to get the three points and extend our gap at the top.

“It’s going to be a tough match. My past experience of playing Notts County was the first league game of the campaign and we left it to the 94th minute to win.

“Meadow Lane is not an easy place to go to. I’m not certain if Notts will set up to attack more or defend but they’ll definitely be well-organised.

“Despite that, I’m confident we can come away with a victory.”

A break in the football calendar has allowed the team to strengthen their relationships both on and off the pitch. Ross explained the time has been well-spent.

“Games are what you train for so it’s nice when they come along regularly but we’ve had a good period where we’ve been together a lot as a squad, training hard and bonding,” she continued.

“We have a great group of players and we all get on well. It’s a really enjoyable environment to be in.

“Of course, we’ve had a lot of time to focus on this game.”

With Chelsea failing to replace City atop the league having dropped points, many claimed the title is on its way to Manchester.

However, Ross insists the Blues have work to do if they are to claim their first league title, though adds the team do not worry about their rivals.

“We definitely focus on ourselves,” she stated. “We can’t control how other games go.

“We’ll be looking to take each game as it comes and our goal will be to take three points from each one.

“I don’t think the title race is over. There’s still a long way to go and there are a number of strong teams competing.”

City’s last outing saw Nick Cushing’s side demolish WSL 2 outfit Aston Villa 8-0 in the Continental Cup - a scoreline two-goal Ross declares has boosted morale.

“It was good to get back to winning ways after two draws against Liverpool,” she reflected. “To have so many different players on the scoresheet and to have performed so well did wonders for our confidence.

“As a striker, it’s great for me to be playing alongside such creative players. I’m enjoying being on the pitch, surrounded by the players I’m surrounded by.

“Whether it’s me putting the ball in the back of the net or one of the other girls though, it doesn’t matter to me. Winning is the most important thing.”
