The 19-year-old’s long range wonder strike gave City a slender advantage in the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League last-16 tie with Brondby.
After starring in midfield for both the Women’s Super League and Continental Cup triumphs, Walsh is just happy to finally get her name on the scoresheet.
She said: “You can’t beat scoring for the club in the Champions League, especially because I support City. The girls have been taking the mick out of me saying it’s coming every game so it felt good to score.
“In training they say think of it as a pass because I try to hit it too hard so that’s what I did and it went my way.”
Walsh and her teammates head to Denmark next week knowing that a positive result will see them into the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time.
As this is already the furthest City have been in the competition, Walsh knows they can’t rest on their laurels in Copenhagen.
“It was a tough game because they’re a tough opposition but we made sure we played our own game and it went our way tonight,” she said.
“In the first half they really took the game to us but in the second half Nick told us to calm down and play our game. The game was ours after that and we kept on pushing but they’re a really tough team to break down and we’ll be ready for that next week.”
The victory was City’s last match at the Academy Stadium for this calendar year and Walsh was delighted to have ended a roller coaster 12 months on a positive note.
She said: “I worked hard while I was out injured and knew that if I did what they say I could get in the team. The rest of the players were a massive help in getting me fit and ready for the second half of the season so that I could help the team.”
