As City prepare for their final game of 2016 against Brondby IF, the defender believes there’s more to come from a team she says will be doing everything they can to ensure they end the year on a high.
A 1-0 win at the Academy Stadium last week means a draw in Copenhagen would be enough to secure a UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter final spot.
Keira Walsh’s long-range strike edged a close fought first leg, but there’s no doubt in the Scot’s mind that reaching the last eight is well within their capabilities.
“Brondby was one of our toughest games we’ve had all year and to get the 1-0 home win was massive for us,” she said.
“We’re confident. I think it’s been the story of our season that we’ve come out of games on top in terms of the result but we’ve always felt we have more to give.”
Unlike City, the Danish outfit’s domestic season is ongoing and they come into Wednesday’s tie on the back of a moral boosting 10-0 victory over Varde.
With that in mind, the 25-year-old is expecting a stern test from the three time Champions League semi finalists, particularly after they came to Manchester with a game plan few teams have attempted this season.
“They’re a tough team and very well organised, as you’d expect from this level in the Champions League,” said Beattie.
“They’re good with the ball and love to play and build out from the back. That’s something we’ve not come up against very much this year. A lot of teams have just banked up against us.
“The more experience we get we realise these games aren’t done in 90 minutes. There’s a whole other game to go, but not conceding means we’re in a good position. It’s our last game of the year so we’ll leave nothing out there, give it our all and hopefully end on a massive high.”
A safe passage through to the quarter finals would see the fairy-tale that’s been the 2016 season continue into next year, when the Champions League resumes and for the Scottish international, the enjoyment of playing in Europe’s premier club competition is motivation enough.
She added: “It was a massive achievement for us to qualify last year. It’s been brilliant so far and credit to the girls for keeping our winning streak going. Hopefully we can go all the way.
“You have to have that confidence.”
