Manchester City Women are delighted to announce that Demi Stokes has extended her contract with the club.

The England full-back has penned a new deal which keeps her at City until the end of the 2017/18 season.

Stokes has featured in all 14 FA WSL games for Nick Cushing’s side this season, helping her team to close in on a first league title.

City need just a point from their match against Chelsea Ladies on Sunday to lift the trophy.

The 24-year old told ManCity.com: “It’s exciting, obviously I’m grateful that I’ve been given this opportunity to stay at this great club.

“Honestly, I couldn’t see myself at any other club. When I first came here, I knew I was coming to somewhere I wanted to be – I never had any doubts about leaving. We’ve got a great team, so there’s no reason to go anywhere else.

“As a player, you always want to be in teams that are in contention to win silverware so I feel as though I’m at the perfect club to do that.”

Her manager is also delighted to that Demi has opted to extend her deal with the Continental Tyres Cup finalists.

Cushing believes that Stokes can fulfil her international aspirations at the club and nail down a place as England’s first choice full-back at next year’s Euro 2017 finals in the Netherlands.

“I’m really pleased because she’s a great example of the type of person we want in the team and I think her attitude and application to training and to her game gives her the best chance to be the best player she can be,” Cushing said.

“This is her second full season and we know that with her staying here and working hard with me, the team and the staff, she can fulfil her potential here.

“She came straight here from college and she really fits the profile of what we want a left full-back to do – the way she attacks but she’s also a good defender.

“International recognition is something that she’s got and something she’s got to work hard to regularly be involved with but I really believe she can be England’s first choice left full-back and we’ll give her every opportunity to fulfil that role in Euro 2017.

“When someone puts football first like Demi does and works hard, they deserve those opportunities.”
