A pioneer of women’s football, Gore made history when she became the first female player to score for England, and counts Manchester Corinthians amongst the clubs she has played for.
She also earned the nickname ‘the Denis Law of women’s football’ having netted 134 goals in one season.
She was involved in the promotion of the sport for sixty years, continuing her involvement in the women’s game after her playing days by heading out into the community to meet with aspiring female footballers to share her wealth of experience.
Gavin Makel, Head of Women’s Football, commented: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Sylvia. She truly was a pioneer of the women’s game.
“Sylvia joined us in March of this year as our Club Ambassador, working with us to promote the Club and our player pathway from grassroots to elite.
“Her insight and knowledge of the game was second to none, and her enthusiasm for Manchester City Women and the project we are building here was exceptional. It was an honour to have worked with her.”
Steph Houghton, Manchester City captain added: “Sylvia was a fantastic person to have around the Club - a legend of the women’s game.
“She will be sorely missed by all of the players at Manchester City. Our thoughts go out to her family and friends at this sad time.”
