The Blues had ten players on international duty during the tournament, but how did they get on?

The Netherlands lifted the 2017 UEFA Women’s European Championship trophy on Sunday after beating Denmark 4-2.

Mie Jans’ side faced the hosts in front of 28,182 spectators in Enschede and watched an entertaining game from the sidelines as the Dutch their first ever European Championship title.

The 23-year old was unable to take part in the final due to an injury sustained in the 1-0 defeat against the Netherlands, her only appearance in the tournament.

England reached the semi-final under Mark Sampson’s guidance with all seven Blues in the squad featuring at some point during their campaign.

Karen Bardsley was the Lionesses’ number one until a fractured tibia suffered in the quarter final against France saw her tournament come to an early end.

In front of her, the combination of Demi Stokes, Steph Houghton and Lucy Bronze played in all but one of the games with the latter two rested for the final group game against Portugal while Stokes was a late substitute.

Jill Scott started the group games against Scotland and Spain before being rested against Portugal with England with one football already in the quarter final.

However, a yellow card against France in the last eight clash saw her miss the semi-final defeat against the Netherlands.

Nikita Parris and Izzy Christiansen both made two appearances each with both starting the game against Portugal as Christiansen set up Parris for the winner in the 48th minute.

Kosavare Asllani’s Sweden reached the quarter final stage with the 28-year old starting in all four of their games before being eliminated by hosts the Netherlands.

Jane Ross was involved in the Scotland squad that was making their first appearance at a major tournament. 

The 27-year old started in the 6-0 opening game defeat against England but a shoulder injury in the second half meant she was ruled out for the remaining games.
