The 21-year-old joins a deal that sees right-back Lucy Bronze switch to the French club.
A prolific, hard-working and technically gifted individual, Bremer was dubbed ‘a star in the making’ at a young age and despite her youth, moves to Manchester, boasting an already-glittering CV.
The striker hopes to enjoy further success with the reigning domestic treble holders, whose professionalism and desire impressed her when Cushing’s side met Lyon in the Champions League semi-finals in April.
“I’m really happy to be here at Manchester City,” she told CityTV. “I’m looking forward to the new season and taking on a new challenge.
“It’s such a big Club and the facilities are great. I was so impressed by the whole Academy. The pitches are great, the gym is big… There are so many facilities.
“Everybody knows that Manchester City is a big, professional Club. In Germany, it’s known that women’s football is rising here in England.
“It is new that an English team is coming into the Champions League semi-finals but it was a good surprise.
“It was not easy for Lyon, beating City [over two legs]. I was injured but both games were tough and City managed to beat Lyon away, which shows they are a good team, rising.
“I think City will match my playing style. I like running and getting the ball into space. I like it when a team plays together to create opportunities.
“I am looking forward to playing in England. I heard that it rains a lot but we’ll see! I will have time to get to know the city.
“It’s a different league and a different style of play from France. It will be exciting to find out.
“I love football – the game and the togetherness with teammates. I have a real passion for the sport.”
Bremer’s career began with SVG Göttingen 07 at youth level before she penned a senior contract with one of the country’s most successful sides 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in 2012.
Within months, she made her Bundesliga debut. During a three-year spell, she made 54 appearances, netting 15 goals, whilst helping the Club to consecutive DFB-Hallenpokal successes – and attracting the attention of Lyon.
In 2015, upon completing her secondary school education, she signed a two-year deal with the French outfit where she bagged 16 goals as Lyon clinched two Division 1, two Coupe de France and two Champions League titles.
Whilst her time in France will be fondly remembered, Bremer feels the timing was right for her to seek a new challenge and fulfil her ambition of becoming a recognised and lethal striker.
She reflected: “I had a really great time in Lyon. Everything was good and the last two years have been very successful.
“I improved technically but you can always progress.
“At some point in your career, you have to take the decision to keep progressing and challenging yourself. I think this was the best moment to take a new step. I want to improve more.
“I’m happy that I can be a striker at City. I hope I can score many goals. At Lyon, I played full-back sometimes but I see my game more as a forward and I’m really excited that here, I will have a new position on the field.
“I’m looking forward to progressing as a player and personality too.”
At international level, Bremer has also enjoyed plenty of glory, lifting the Under-17s European Championship and U20 World Cup – in which she netted five and created six assists. She also claimed the Golden Boot at the U19s Euros, scoring six times.
She was introduced to Germany’s first team set-up as a teenager, making her debut as a substitute on her 18th birthday, replacing Celia Sasic against Slovenia in a World Cup qualifier. Her first start for the senior squad heralded a hat-trick against Hungary.
The striker has gone on to notch 15 caps and hopes that by developing with City, she will earn a regular starting place for her country.
Asked of her targets for the coming campaign, Bremer replied: “I want to help the team with goals and also, I want to find a way back into the national team and be an important part of that.
“The U20s World Cup in 2014 was my first big title. It was amazing for the team to win the whole tournament.
“It’s a big goal for City to win the Champions League one day. Of course, I want to help the Club reach that aim. It’s the biggest competition in Club football.
“We have the facilities. We have to work hard but I’m ready.”
