The Republic of Ireland international has agreed a deal which extends her stay at the Academy Stadium for a further year.
Having joined Nick Cushing’s side in February 2016, Campbell unfortunately missed much of the double-winning season through injury.
The throw-in specialist agreed a one-year deal in December and would go on to play an important role in the Blues’ 2017 Spring Series campaign and FA Cup triumph, creating four assists and netting a superb free-kick.
With a string of influential performances, the defender has proved her worth and hopes to repay her manager’s faith by continuing to impress.
“I’m really happy,” she told ManCity.com.
“This Club is like a family and I’m really grateful to the players and staff for putting their trust in me. There’s quality on and off the pitch here.
“I’m pleased with the way I performed in the Spring Series and FA Cup but I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the team.
“I’ve been trying to get back to full fitness, increasing my gametime. I’ve did everything I could to prove I was good enough to stay in the squad.
“Nick is an unbelievable manager to work under. I love how easy it is to talk to him and having the whole team behind me has made life so much easier.
“I wanted to make their minds up for them and thankfully, I was able to. It’s nice to perform well and impress in front of your manager.”
Cushing himself expressed his pride for the way Campbell conducted herself during her injury and hailed her crucial impact upon her return.
“Megan is a young player with a lot of potential,” he said. “She has come back from injury stronger than ever and shown everyone what she can offer on the pitch.
“I have been delighted with her performances in the games she played in 2017 and I look forward to having her on the team once again when we kick off the new season.”
Campbell joined City, having completed her social science scholarship with Florida State University.
She moved to America from the Republic of Ireland, where she gained a collection of trophies and medals, plus plenty of individual recognition and some Champions League experience.
She then helped Florida to three consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference titles with an incredible 31 assists. She was also named in the 2014 ACC All-Tournament Team and lifted the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship.
Asked of her career highlight at City, there was a clear winner.
“The FA Cup final,” she beamed. “I was desperate to be involved and when Nick named the team and said ‘Bardsley, Bronze, Houghton, Campbell…’, I was in shock. I didn’t even hear the rest of the team!
“My face light up and I was trying to contain my emotions. I couldn’t believe it.
“We stayed in a hotel across the road from Wembley the night before and I kept looking at it, thinking: ‘Am I really going to play there?’
“We walked out onto the pitch for the warm-up and the atmosphere was unbelievable. There was a record crowd.
“I’m really proud of the fact I helped the team to win the trophy, especially getting two assists.
“To have got back into the squad in such an important game after such a long time out was a personal achievement.”
Campbell added she adores the Club’s ‘fight to the end’ mentality, declaring it the most important lesson of her time here.
“There’s a real ‘never-say-die attitude’ and a willingness to improve,” she continued.
“Everybody wants each other to do well. The main target is winning trophies but we also want to develop and help each other.
“We always want to win to become the best.”
Having secured her immediate future, the defender hopes to have put her injury woes well and truly behind her and has her sights set on more silverware.
“My aim is to try and get more regular gametime, keeping those injuries away,” she stated.
“We’ve won everything domestically but we want to continue that success. Our main aim is to go back-to-back because the sign of a good team is continued success.
“We want to maintain our form and come back even stronger. A lot of the players are at the Euros this summer so we’ll have even more experience.
“Hopefully, we can all carry that onto the pitch at Club level and maybe we can go one better in the Champions League next year as well.”
