Izzy Christiansen has already won every domestic trophy with City – but she insists her motivation for glory has never been higher.

The midfielder, who extended her contract with Nick Cushing’s side earlier this month, has played a pivotal role in the Blues’ league, Continental Tyres Cup and FA Cup successes.

The 2016 PFA Players’ Player of the Year, who famously netted in her side’s 2014 Continental Tyres Cup and 2017 FA Cup final triumphs, has plenty of personal highlights to choose from since joining the Club back in 2014 – but, ever driven, believes the best is yet to come – both on an individual basis and collectively for the domestic treble holders.

“I feel hungrier than ever,” she told ManCity.com.

“We’ve got a really exciting squad with lots of young talent and there are also players who are yet to return from injury.

“Once they’re back fit, we’ll have competition for every place in its healthiest form.

“We’ve got strength in depth and players who are willing to put on the shirt and put in a good shift for this Club.

“We’re ready to challenge for honours again and I hope we can produce some exciting football for our fans.”

Manager Cushing asserts the key to the Blues’ recent achievements has been their challenging pre-season schedules.

This year, City travelled to seven-time German title winners 1 FFC Frankfurt and then France, where they competed in the Toulouse International Ladies Cup against Montpellier and European champions Lyon.

As was the case in their debut Champions League campaign, the Blues emerged victorious against Lyon, claiming a 3-2 win thanks to a Christiansen double and new signing Pauline Bremer’s late winner.

In addition to providing a confidence boost, Christiansen maintains the triumph also sent a statement of intent.

“We were really happy with that win,” she reflected. “If we’d have drawn or lost, there would still have been plenty of positive messages to take but instead, it goes down on paper as another win against Lyon.

“That’s twice [in three games] we’ve beaten them now and they’re the Champions League winners.

“It came at a tough stage in our pre-season but it goes to show we’ve got an incredible mentality here and we can build on that.

“It was a crazy game – I think we’ve proven that when we face each other, we provide a great spectacle for the fans – but it was a great result and experience for us as a team, going forward.

“There were some good team moves and great individual performances; we were gritty and resilient and we defended excellently.

“You can coach defending until the cows come home but there’s also a mentality thing and we had a real desire to stop the ball from going in our net that day.

“Hopefully, we can use it as a building block for further success.”
