City are delighted to announce England stars Izzy Christiansen and Jill Scott have signed new deals.

The pair, who joined the Club ahead of its debut in the top flight back in 2014, have played key roles in the Blues’ success.

Both midfielders have witnessed the extraordinary transformation from Super League newcomers to reigning domestic treble winners and Champions League semi-finalists.

Christiansen famously netted in the 2014 Continental Tyres Cup final – City’s first piece of major silverware – while Scott bagged crucial strikes as Nick Cushing’s side secured a respectable finish in their maiden WSL campaign.

The duo also played pivotal parts as the Blues completed the 2015 season with a top-two finish and a Champions League spot for the first time. Christiansen scored six times in the final seven games and would go on to claim the PFA Players’ Player of the Year the following spring.

Last year heralded an incredible league and cup double, as City lifted their first championship title and their second Continental Tyres Cup. Christiansen continued her hot scoring streak, while Scott opened the scoring in the title-winning clash against rivals Chelsea and notably netted the Club’s first Champions League goal.

The Blues completed their collection of domestic trophies, claiming their third in succession with a stunning 4-1 FA Cup victory at Wembley, in which both Christiansen and Scott wrote their name onto the scoresheet.

During their time at City, Scott – who has earned more than 100 caps – has also helped England to a bronze medal at the 2015 World Cup, while Christiansen made her international debut. Both represented their country at the Euros in Holland over the summer.

Christiansen told CityTV of her joy upon penning her new deal, adding she believes she is in the best place to fulfil her potential.

“I’m very, very pleased and excited,” she smiled. “I’m looking forward to enjoying a few more years here and I’m hoping to add to the developments we’ve made so far.

“I know I can develop here as a player. We’ve got some great young players coming through and I’d like to play a role in helping those youngsters get up to speed and increase the quality of players at this Club.

“There are so many top players I train with everyday. I’m looking forward to the future and how we’re going to bode as a team going forward.

“I’ve not reached the heights that I want to yet. I’m a very ambitious person and I’d like to think my ambitions match the Club’s ambitions. That’s probably what made the decision so easy.

“It feels like home and I’m really excited for a challenge to keep City at the top of the women’s game in England.”

Scott echoed her teammate’s sentiments, describing the Club’s unforgettable adventure.

“This will be my fourth season,” she declared. “I feel I’ve been a part of the journey from day one and what a journey it’s been!

“When I got the opportunity to stay and carry on that journey, I was ecstatic. I’m really happy to be staying.

“People start to talk about age once you hit 30 but I still feel I can get better as a player and City is the right Club for me to do that.

“I’ve experienced many highs and lows but nothing has put a smile on my face like these past few years and that’s why I wanted to stay. I feel I’ve progressed as a player and I feel I can get better. Age is just a number!

“People always talk about the facilities here and of course, I’m very honoured and very privileged to be able to train here every day but when you walk in the building and speak to the staff, you find the amount of knowledge is astounding.

“I walk away from this place having learnt more as a player but also as a person and I think that’s really important.”

Manager Cushing was naturally thrilled to secure the services of two of his key players.

He stated: “Izzy and Jill are exceptional players who form an integral part of our midfield and I am delighted they will remain at City as we look to build on what we achieved last season.

“They are both fantastic role models, especially for our younger players and the girls who are part of our Academy.

“They’re team players who know it takes hard work and determination to be successful on the pitch and more importantly, they’re good people whose passion for the game is second to none.”
