Houghton was named in Phil Neville’s starting XI in a friendly against Sweden at Rotherham’s New York Stadium to reach her milestone.
The Lionesses were defeated 2-0 but the result did little to dampen the celebrations.
Houghton took to social media to express her pride: “[I’m] honoured, humbled and overwhelmed to be part of the England 100 Club,” she wrote.
“Thank you to my past and present teammates, my club coaches, my England managers and staff who have had a huge influence on my England career and have created memories for a lifetime!
“But the BIGGEST thank you of all is to my family, especially Mam, Dad, Bro and my husband. Without your love and support through the highs/lows it wouldn’t have been possible! This is for you...”
The City captain received her first international call-up in 2007, and made her debut in March that year in a 6-0 win over Russia.
Steph overcame two serious injuries to feature in the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Euros for the Lionesses before being named England’s captain in January 2014.
Since then, the defender has captained her side to a 2015 World Cup bronze medal, a semi-final spot in the 2017 Euros and qualification to the upcoming 2019 World Cup in France.
Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Steph for this incredible achievement.
We are so, so proud to call your our captain, @stephhoughton2.
