Hat-trick hero Georgia Stanway is targeting an England call-up, after City’s impressive 6-0 victory over Brighton.

The 19-year-old scored the second treble of her City career on an impressive display in Crawley, with goals from Caroline Weir, Nikita Parris and Claire Emslie completing the rout. 

Stanway recently earned a call-up to her first senior training camp with England, having worked her way through the ranks at youth level with the Lionesses, playing key roles in two World Cup campaigns.

Asked of her hopes of soon receiving a first appearance for Phil Neville’s national side, the Blues’ attacker agreed: “That is in my plans - it’s something that I want to get one day, but I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing now, working hard.

“I think performances like this will hopefully put me in good stead. I can’t do much more than I am so now it’s just about consistency and making sure I’m on top every game.

“It would be great to be involved [in this summer’s World Cup squad].

“I had an unbelievable time away with the Under-20s the summer just gone, so it would be unbelievable to do it with the senior team.

“I’ll keep playing the way I’m playing and hopefully I’ll get a call up and see what I can do.”

Whilst reflecting on her own performance in the triumph over Brighton, Stanway heaped the praise on her teammates’ confident display.

“We had a lot of the ball and created a lot of chances,” she added, “and I think when you get more and more into the game, you get more and more confident and you’re more willing to have a go.

“I think that’s what we did today, and that showed even more in the latter stages. 

“I’m really happy [with the hat-trick] but like I say, it’s a team performance. Probably the first goal [was my favourite] because it put us in good stead.

“We started well, so to get that first goal which escalated to six was really good. I’ve done my job as has everybody else, and we’ll take this into Friday’s game against Reading and we’ll see what we can do then.”
