Caroline Weir is ‘delighted’ with her superb shot against Bristol in our recent Continental Cup clash…

The Blues sealed a 3-0 win over the Vixens away at the Stoke Gifford Stadium through Claire Emslie, a Nadia Nadim penalty and Weir’s thunderous strike from the edge of the box.

The goal marked the Scotland international’s first since joining the club from Liverpool during the summer transfer window.

“It’s always nice to score, but that goal especially as it was my first for City,” the 23-year-old explained to ManCity.com. “It’s nice to score for the team but most importantly it’s great to get the three points as that’s what matters.

“I love picking the ball up on the edge of the area and if I can get a shot away then that’s what I try to do so I’m delighted with that, and even more delighted with the team’s performance.

“Bristol made it really difficult for us in the first half and we knew that they would sit behind the ball a bit so we knew we had to break them down.

“Once we got the first goal we could relax a little bit and enjoy having the ball, plus it was great to get another two.”

The game marked the end of a busy week for Nick Cushing’s side, after opening their FA WSL campaign away to Chelsea followed by a trip to Madrid in the Champions League, but the attacking midfielder is confident that the squad can cope with the schedule.

“It’s obviously a busy time for us, especially with internationals as well,” Caroline added. “There are a lot of games but we’ve got a really good depth in the squad which means we can rotate and deal with that.

“Our team also has top players who will be able to deal with the number of fixtures too which will hopefully see us at our best for every single game.”

Next, City return to league action with another away trip – this time to Everton – before returning to take on Bristol, again, at the Academy Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the games, Weir said: “It’ll be great to get back to Women’s Super League action. Hopefully we can continue to start the season well and get a good result.”
