England striker and new City signing Ellen White won bronze in the 2019 Women's World Cup, finishing third in the Golden Boot awards.

The forward, who signed for City this summer, netted six times in France - the same amount as Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan of the USA, who retained their title with a 2-0 win over the Netherlands in the Final.

The top three goalscorers were separated by the number of assists they created in the fewest minutes, lifting Rapione top and Morgan second.

White’s sensational displays saw the forward break an England record, as she bagged six goals in as many games to become the Lionesses’ all-time top World Cup goalscorer.

She was unfortunate not to have found her name on the scoresheet twice more, with two goals controversially ruled out by VAR in the semi-final defeat to America and Third-Place Play-Off loss to Sweden.

Reflecting on the achievement, City’s new recruit took to Twitter to express her delight.

“Huge congratulations Megan Rapinoe, winning both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball,” she wrote.

“It was fun going head to head with you and Alex Morgan this tournament.

“Congratulations on winning the Women’s World Cup. Thoroughly deserved.

“When I look back on this tournament, my overriding emotion is that of pride! Pride in this Lionesses team and playing for my country.

“Thank you so much for your support. It means the world.”

Congratulations, Ellen!
