The England star, who is set to feature at the World Cup against Scotland today, signed a two-year deal with City three weeks ago following a successful spell with Birmingham City.
Ahead of the Lionesses’ tournament opener, White opened up on her move to City, admitting she sought advice from Houghton before making her decision to complete the move.
“I spoke to her quite a bit,” she explained.
“I wanted to know about her development, what’s around the Club, what the team and staff are like and, most importantly, how I can develop as a player.
“To be closer to my friend will be amazing, but I wanted to know a lot more about the Club, the culture and the development side too.”
The 30-year-old is relishing the chance to represent City next season, but stressed her main focus at the moment is on a successful World Cup with England.
“It’s incredible to be valued by a team of Manchester City’s calibre,” she added.
“For me, it was great to get it done and signed before the World Cup so I can solely focus on the tournament, which is important.
“It will mean I get to play with some unbelievable players, playing alongside Steph rather than against her, which is absolutely lovely!
“I feel I’m in a really good place at the moment and I’m just excited for the World Cup to get under way.”
England play Scotland in Nice today, before going on to face Japan and Argentina in Group D.
