The former City star, introduced from the bench just before the hour mark, netted the final goal in injury time of an astonishing win for reigning Champions the United States, who romped to a 13 (thirteen!) -0 win over Thailand in their Group F opener.
Lloyd, who spent a loan spell in Manchester in 2017, continued her World Cup form where she left off, having played a pivotal role in her country’s third tournament success in 2015, bagging six goals overall in Canada, including a hat-trick in the Final against Japan.

Her efforts were rewarded with the Golden Ball for Player of the Tournament, Silver Boot and a Puskas Award nomination for her sensational 55-yard strike in the Final.
