Nikita Parris aims to maintain her impressive scoring run against Liverpool when City host the Reds on Sunday.

The forward – the FA Women’s Super League’s all-time top goalscorer – is currently in the form of her life, topping the Blues’ 2018/19 goalscoring charts with an astonishing 23 goals in 26 appearances.

Signed from Everton in January 2015 before the move became permanent a year later, Toxteth-born Parris has an excellent record against both Merseyside clubs.

Against Liverpool, she has bagged an impressive 11 goals – six in sky blue; five in royal blue – and admits her Everton roots spur her on against the Reds, even now.

“I came here from Everton and of course, it was a derby when I was there,” she reflected.

“To me, it still feels like a derby.

“No matter what game I play, I want to score goals. I’ve scored in a few games against Liverpool so hopefully, I can continue that run.”

As the season reaches its crescendo, the excitement reaches a new level.

Having already lifted the Continental Cup, City remain in the hunt for a domestic treble – pushing Arsenal to the wire in the title race and facing Chelsea at home in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

With the World Cup also creeping closer – and several of our Blue contingent vying for a place on the plane to France, including our star striker – Parris says the atmosphere in the dressing room is electric.

“We’re all buzzing,” she smiled. “There are five games left to go – we’re still fighting in the league and FA Cup – and the World Cup is just around the corner so it’s happy days.

“Everyone’s really excited.”

Parris’ best attribute has been cited as her desire to reach the highest level and the forward admits the incentive to perform has never been greater, with so much at stake in the coming weeks.

“Every day and in every game, you have to produce your best,” she added.

“With a big tournament coming up, you want to produce your best performance in games for your Club, so you have the best chance of being selected for your country, as well as helping your Club to achieve success.

“I believe that if you do it now, you’ll do it then.

“It’s just a great time for everyone.”

City host Liverpool at the Academy Stadium on Sunday 31 March at 2pm, as the FA Women’s Super League title race hots up.

Tickets are available to buy online or at the Etihad Stadium Ticket Office.
