City’s sizeable England contingent more than played their part for their nation on a historic night in North London.
Playing in front of a sell-out Wembley crowd against, it was another giant leap forward for women’s football in this country on what proved to be a memorable night against the world’s second best-rated side.
City were well represented with nine players in the squad for the game.
Skipper Steph Houghton took the armband and team-mates Jill Scott, Keira Walsh, and Ellen White all started, too.

Demi Stokes, Ellie Roebuck, Gemma Bonner, Georgia Stanway and Lauren Hemp were all on the bench.
With former Blues Lucy Bronze, Nikita Parris and Abbie McManus also involved, it was further evidence of just how City have dominated the capture of English talent over the past five years.
Pauline Bremmer also began on the Germany bench.
The visitors had the better of the first half and were ahead after just nine minutes when Wolfsburg’s Alexandra Popp scored for Germany.
The Lionesses had a chance to equalise on 34 minutes, but Nikita Parris saw her poor penalty attempt saved.
However, it was a goal made in the blue half of Manchester that drew Phil Neville’s side level just before the break.
Scott held the ball up before feeding Walsh and her fine cross was turned in by White to the delight of the record 77,768 crowd.
Hemp came on after 73 minutes and Stanway arrived after 77 minutes, while Bremmer entered the fray on 65 minutes.
Houghton was superb, particularly in the latter stages when she marshalled the defence under intense pressure, but after appearing to pick up a knock, even she couldn’t prevent a last-minute winner for the visitors.
Though it was a fifth loss in seven games for the Lionesses, it was a proud night for England and City with the international bar set higher than ever despite Klara Buhl’s 90th-minute winner.
