Steph Houghton and Georgia Stanway were amongst the winners at the 2019 North West Football Awards, where City picked up four prizes.

The women’s first team duo were recognised alongside City in the Community and Vincent Kompany at the annual event, held at Old Trafford cricket ground.

Houghton was crowned Women’s Player of the Season, while her 20-year-old team-mate received the Women’s Rising Star award, having helped City to a domestic cup double in 2018/19 before their involvement in England’s run to the semi-finals of World Cup last summer.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to the fans for voting for this award,” said Houghton upon collecting her prize.

“Last year was an unbelievable season for me as well as my club Manchester City.

“To be able to lead my country to a World Cup semi-final and win two trophies with my club was an incredible experience.”

Former Club captain Kompany, who departed at the end of last season, received the Impact Award for the influence he had on football in the region during his testimonial year.

He led the men’s first team to all four domestic trophies and delivered one of the defining moments of the campaign with his goal against Leicester City, but also had a profound impact off the pitch.

The Belgian defender joined forces with Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, setting-up the Tackle4MCR campaign to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping in his adopted city and used his testimonial game to raise funds for the initiative.

It was the Club’s impact across Manchester which saw us claim our fourth award of the evening, too.

City in the Community’s efforts ensured we scooped the Premier League Community Club of the Season gong, beating Burnley, Everton and Liverpool in the process.

“We are delighted to have won this award which further highlights the commitment Manchester City are making to support communities throughout Manchester,” said Head of City in the Community, Mike Green.

“CITC continue to use football to have a positive impact on over 20,000 young people every week and it’s great that this has been recognised by partners within the football industry.”
