The German forward, who enjoyed back-to-back European glory with Lyon during her two-year spell in France, is pushing to start, as Nick Cushing’s side lock horns with Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16 second leg on Wednesday.

With the two sides having played out a 1-1 draw in Manchester a fortnight ago, City have to score to hold any chance of progression – and against the side who inflicted our elimination in the 2018/19 tournament.
This season’s top scorer Bremer insists however City have full confidence in our hopes of progression, despite a disappointing run of domestic form, adding that the team do not require extra words of encouragement.
“The Champions League is special,” she declared. “You don’t have to say a lot to motivate everyone.
“I’ve won it twice with Lyon and we always had a great team with a big desire to win – that’s really important.
“No matter what conditions you play in or the opposition you play against, you always need to believe you can win the game.
“That was really strong with Lyon but I also feel that belief in this team.
“We all know what’s on the game. It’s a really important game.
“We all want to win – we’re all winners and really competitive – and we want to go far in every competition.
“I really hope we can produce and win.”
After a blistering start to the season which saw City bag 20 goals in our opening seven games – including seven for Bremer – Cushing’s side could not find the net in our past two games against Manchester United and Arsenal.
The German dismissed the suggestion there will be added pressure when chances arrive on Wednesday, instead highlighting the hunger of the team to return to scoring ways.
“It’s motivated me to be better, for sure,” she said. “As a striker, you always want to score and create chances.
“In the last two games, we’ve struggled a bit creating moments and positions where we were able to score.
“I really have a big desire to do more for the team but also personally.
“I don’t think there will be more pressure. It’s our job to score goals, especially as strikers.
“There’s always a little bit of pressure but that pushes us more to put the ball in the net.”
