City soared through to the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League in style after securing a 2-1 victory over LSK Kvinner, with goals from Izzy Christiansen and Nikita Parris.

Following our 5-0 victory away at Norway in the first leg, City fought hard during the second meeting at the Academy Stadium - coming from 1-0 down and managing to finish with a 7-1 aggregate result.

What happened

The first half was a battle between the sides. The first chance of the evening went to City after just a minute had passed.

Jill Scott had the opportunity to take Nick Cushing’s side into the lead but LSK ‘keeper Cecilie Fiskerstrand got there first to prevent the midfielder from scoring.

Just moments later, she scored against Bristol City in the Women’s Super League.

In the following moments, the Blues had a number of opportunities to increase their aggregate lead, with skipper Steph Houghton’s header being captured by Fiskerstrand – who hugged the ball on the line to prevent a goal.

Despite City’s dominating presence the first goal of the evening went to the visitors.

Marte Berget gave LSK Kvinner the advantage at the Academy Stadium in the 17th minute as Emilie Haavi’s cross was converted narrowly past ’s outstretched hand.

Cushing’s side tried their utmost to equalise, and it seemed likely to happen in the 24th minute when Demi Stokes expertly sashayed around the LSK defence and was able to pin point Nikita Parris’ head perfectly, but the forward’s header slipped inches wide of the ‘keeper’s left post.

After half-time, a switch seemed to have turned on for City.

Less than a minute after returning to the pitch Izzy Christiansen fired home Parris’ through-ball beautifully to make it 1-1 between the sides.

Unfortunately City’s joy was short lived as The defender looked in some discomfort and was stretchered off the pitch to a standing ovation from the stands.

Later on in the second half, City doubled their goal tally after substitution Melissa Lawley drove forward to feed the ball to Parris, who drove the ball forward with force and determination to give her side a 2-1 lead at the Academy Stadium.

Mie Jans made her debut for the Blues on Thursday night and she was warmly welcomed to the cold Manchester pitch.

How they lined up

Ellie Roebuck took her place in goal with Megan Campbell, Jen Beattie, skipper Steph Houghton and Abbie McManus making up the backline.

Izzy Christiansen, Keira Walsh and Jill Scott acted in midfield.

Nikita Parris started for the Blues with Demi Stokes and Claire Emslie flanking her upfront.
