The defender, who also scored the winner against Arsenal in the fourth round of the competition last season, was the hero once again, poking in from a yard out after 88 minutes, registering our first ever goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Pep Guardiola‘s men dominated the possession, completing 602 passes and also created chances, with Oscar Bobb seeing a goal ruled out for a marginal offside and Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario producing some smart saves to keep us at bay.
However, Ake struck late and was full of praise for the team’s attitude and desire to win the game.
“I’m so happy, it was tough,” he said. “I think we played really well over the whole game. We just had to score. It didn’t happen again for a long time but luckily we got it in the end.
“I’m not sure what happened. I just touched it in. [We kept] trust in the way we play. We played really well and created numerous chances.
“The belief to keep going even though we didn’t score, we kept going and kept trying. Eventually we got it. We thought it’s never going to come. Finally it came.”

“It’s very good. It was important to go through,” he said.
“We want to fight in every competition. Tonight was a big step forward again.”
