Mahrez is one of the Premier League’s trickiest customers, with his ability to dribble at speed combined with that instantly recognisable drop of the shoulder making him a menace for opposition full-backs.
For former City captain Morrison, he is a joy to watch in a one on one duels and he says the 29-year-old is the best player he’s ever seen when it comes to deceiving defenders.
“He excites me when he gets in one on one situations,” Morrison explained on the latest edition of the We’re Not Really Here matchday show.
“People will say show him onto his right foot, but he has an incredible ability to disguise his movement.
“He’s the best I’ve ever seen at actually showing you the ball to shoot and then pulling it back across. In an and around the box, one on one when he faces you up, I think he’s the best at the Club.
“We have seen it so many times. It almost looks like it’s game over when he squares you up. He drops his shoulder and bang into the top corner.”
Joao Cancelo is another player who has stood out for Morrison this season, with his unique approach to the full-back role.
The Portugal international has impressed with his ability to move into central areas when we are in possession to add an extra body in midfield.
Our former centre-half believes it is a tactical tweak which prevents City from becoming predictable and hailed Pep Guardiola for his innovative approach.
“There is such in depth knowledge on every team and every movement and the patterns that City play with,” said the Connah’s Quay Nomads manager.
“We need to find something different to create something different further up the pitch. For many seasons it’s been a clear 4-3-3 and the opposition will find ways to stifle that and push us into areas we don’t want to go.
“With the way the extra player comes into the midfield, and what he [Cancelo] brings in possession of the ball has impressed me so much this year.
“Some of his range of passing, his ability to receive the ball, I don’t think he receives the ball really well with his back to play, but when the ball is in front of him I think he is excellent.
“Teams will start looking at this and the balance is important. Its inventive and it’s one flipside of having the best manager in world football to see something and change it.”
