The winger signed a five-and-a-half-year deal at the Etihad Stadium after a stunning first half of the 2025/26 campaign with Bournemouth, scoring 10 Premier League goals.
Semenyo was one of the standout players in the top-flight throughout 2025, adding a consistent end product to a profile that already boasted a two-footedness and fleet of foot the envy of many Premier League stars.
Having celebrated his 26th birthday on Wednesday, our new No.42 is now primed to help Pep Guardiola’s side as we challenge for yet more major honours.
Speaking in his first interview as a City player, Semenyo was asked what his outside perception of the Club was while watching our glittering success under Guardiola.
“I mean you want to be a part of the team, to be honest,” he started.
“You want to be winning those trophies, you want to be playing with the best players in the world, so that perception is that you just want to be involved.
“I thank God that now I’m involved and we can win many more trophies.”
Having began his professional career at Bristol City, Semenyo earned a move to the Cherries in January 2023.
There he’s spent a brilliant three years, helping Andoni Iraola’s side become one of the Premier League’s great entertainers.
His own personal improvement in that time has been remarkable.
That’s something the Ghana international puts down to both his faith and his humility off the pitch.
“It starts in the mornings when I’m praying, day and night I make sure I always pray and make sure I always write down things where I can improve and get better,” he said.
“Having the right people around me, I feel like those three things have got me the success I’ve had to day.
“So, I just need to keep them around me, keep improving, keep writing things down and keep praying.”
With 13 goals last term and 10 already this time around, Semenyo has proven he has a knack for goalscoring from out wide.
During his time in charge of City, Guardiola has helped several wingers add yet more goals to their game by attacking the back post when crosses are sent in from the opposite side.
Our new man believes that will be a key aspect of how he can develop at City.
“That’s an extra 10 or 15 goals at the end of the season. I feel like I’ve had to work on that so much over the past two years,” he said.
“So joining a club like this and the previous players who’ve played in my position, it’s going to be great.
“I want to be one of those getting the numbers at the end of the season.”
