The Blues’ skipper believes it is vital that the approach is the same as the first leg as any other thinking would be dangerous.
The former Borussia Dortmund star is well aware of the challenge City face at the Allianz Arena and insists it will be business as usual in terms of approach once the game kicks off.
“I guess it’s about finding a balance,” said Gundogan.
“Our team is built to start every game wanting to win it.
“We want possession but need to play in a mature way. We know from experience as well and the games we’ve watched that everything is still possible.
“This competition has something special. You can sometimes get incredible results you wouldn’t believe, so obviously we take it very seriously.
“We are playing one of the best teams in Europe and that’s how we approach the game.”
As for City’s three-goal aggregate lead, Gundogan says it is crucial that is put to the back of the mind to avoid any complacency.
“Just don’t think about it because it’s not done,” he said.
“In this competition it’s always first and second leg. We’re away now, and especially away it requires a big personality.
“We want to keep the ball and you have to have personality playing in such an amazing stadium.
“Their fans will be behind them more than ever. It’s about us not allowing them to get momentum and to get the first goal, as they’ll feel there’s still a lot to play for.
“The best way to deal within this it to play our style. Try to be efficient.”
City have, of course, lost out twice in the Champions League semi-finals and also lost in our only final appearance against Chelsea.
But getting so close increases the desire to win the trophy, says Gundogan.
“Yeah of course, the further you get in the competition, the bigger the hunger to win it,” he said.
“I don’t know who apart from the manager won this competition in our team, but we were close.
“I was close at Dortmund in 2013 and most of the squad was close a couple of years ago but it wasn’t to be and that only increases the desire to get back to the final and win the trophy.
“I think that’s what this club and the group of players deserve.”
Asked if his Bundesliga experience meant anything ahead of this game, Gundogan replied: “I can’t talk much about them in all honesty, I don’t know what’s happening internally and around the club.
“All I know is Bayern Munich are the biggest club in Germany and every year they’re ambitious and play for everything.
“Of course you can get knocked out of the cup sometimes, but the expectation is so high because they’ve done amazingly in the last decade and more.
“It shows how ambitious they are, same for my national team colleagues, I know their mentality and dedication.
“I expect them tomorrow in their best version. Tomorrow they will try to be one of the best in Europe and I have to say I’m a big fan of Thomas Tuchel, too,
“I had him at Dortmund and I understand sometimes being in the job isn’t always easy but if he’s given enough time you’ll see their levels even if they aren’t there right now consistently.
“It’s a matter of time that you’ll watch them and say ‘Wow’.”
