Steph Houghton says Erling Haaland is every defender’s worst dream come true.

The Norwegian moved to 48 goals this season with his crucial second-half strike against Bayern Munich.

His next target could be to surpass Dixie Dean’s 95-year record of 60 goals for Everton during the 1927/28 season – and with a minimum of 11 games remaining in all competitions, who would bet against him?

Our City women’s skipper says Haaland is almost unstoppable.

“I wouldn’t like to mark him!” said Houghton on Matchday Live.

“How would you stop someone like that? He’s unplayable, he has the brilliant run in behind, but he can shoot from all areas.

“I’ve run out of words to be honest, and he has proven it on the big stage. He’s proving it on the Champions League stage and if he continues to score for City then we’re all happy.”

Steve Howey believes Haaland to be the ultimate goal-poacher.

The ex-City defender said: “I don’t think we’ve seen him hit one for 30 yards because he scores goalscorer’s goals.

“He can be out of the game for 90 minutes, but he will always there at the right time.

“Not only is the technique there, but also concentration. It would be easy to lash at the goal he scored against Bayern in the first leg, but he didn’t.

“He’s a top, top goalscorer and we’ve seen games he’s not influenced massively but he’s still scored two or even three.”

City legend Shaun Goater believes Haaland is capable of creating a raft of new records that will be hard to beat.

Having smashed numerous Club and Premier League records already, the former City striker says he has ‘lost count’ of the amount of goals the Norway star has scored.

“He’s absolutely phenomenal - I can’t keep up with counting, he just seems to score goal after goal,” he said.

“A lot of times there are brilliant assists, but he is always in the right place.

“He loves big games. He’s just created his own conversation with the number of goals he’s scoring.

“I love how he has done it and the conversations on how many records he might get.”

And on City’s progress to the Champions League semi-finals, the Bermudian added: “I don’t think anyone wants to play us. I really think it was a brilliant performance against Bayern and Pep will be disappointed we conceded a goal.

“I think it was thoroughly a professional display and a huge performance.

“Bayern are a team who come to the Champions League and you don’t want to face them at this stage, so this was brilliant performance by our team.”
