Pep Guardiola’s side travel to the capital on Sunday 28 May having already secured the title in impressive fashion.
The success represents our third successive championship, with the trip to the Gtech Community Stadium our last league assignment before two colossal finals to end the season.
First up is the FA Cup showpiece event with Manchester United on 3 June ahead of the monumental Champions League final with Inter on 10 June.
However, with the hosts looking to qualify for the UEFA Conference League and City aiming to finish the league term on a high note, former Blues defender, Mee, says the clash will be played at an electric pace.
And he asserted that neither side will be taking the game lightly in London.
“It’ll be a difficult game no matter who plays [for City], it’ll be tough for us,” he said.
“The structure of the group, who comes in or out of the [City] team doesn’t really matter too much, it’s going to be difficult for us.
“Hopefully we can get a result for our sakes. I’m happy there’s no title on the line and it’s already been settled.
“For us, we’ve got a chance to go into Europe.
“We can finish in seventh if results go our way, so we’ll obviously be raring to go and wanting to win this last game for us, and I’m sure City will want to do that as well and end a really good season for them on a high as well for their travelling fans.
“It’ll be a competitive game, it won’t be an end of season style game. It’ll be competitive and hopefully a good game.”
Mee progressed through the City youth ranks and signed his first professional contract with the Club in September 2007.
After continually impressing in first team training, he made his debut in a League Cup defeat to West Brom in September 2010.
The now 33-year-old then enjoyed a loan spell at Leicester in 2011 before joining Burnley temporarily in the same year ahead of completing a permanent move to Turf Moor in 2012.
Since then, he’s faced his former employers on a swathe of occasions – including in Brentford’s dramatic 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium in November 2020.
Despite Thomas Frank’s side’s impressive victory earlier this term, Mee explained how opposition players need to be at the peak of their powers every time they play Guardiola’s team.
He added: “You’ve got to have your head on a swivel and be aware at all times. It’s difficult.
“As a defender as well you’ve got to be alert at all times, there’s no switching off. As soon as you switch off or have one second of a lack in concentration it can be fatal.
“I’ve been to the Etihad many times where that’s the case. One minute you’re doing okay and the score is 0-0, the next minute you’re 5-0 down.
“We got a victory at the Etihad earlier this season but going there is such a difficult place to play.
“In my opinion they’re the best team in the world. So going there and trying to get a result is very difficult and obviously we play them on the weekend and it’ll be another difficult game.
“[They have] amazing players and coach. The way they play and the inventiveness of the team as well and how they set up now is incredible.
“The way they’ve taken football forward, the way the manager’s taken football forward is something to certainly admire.”
