But while Bernardo agrees that our exploits so far this season are worthy of praise, he has stressed the importance of maintaining those levels moving forward.
He said: “We are happy with our current moment, we are happy to be on top of the league and for qualifying on top of the group in the UEFA Champions League.
“But we are only halfway through the season, we have done half of the job.
“We are in a good position in all competitions, but we need to carry on the same way to be able to fight for the trophies at the end of the season.
“We are privileged to be in the position we are and we are very pleased with our first half of the season.”
Individually, Bernardo has enjoyed a similarly impressive start to the campaign, being voted Etihad Player of the Month three times in succession from October to December.
The Portuguese international has already chipped in with seven goals so far this season with his work rate, intelligence, and versatility vital in our march to the Premier League summit.
But for the 27-year-old, the success of the team far outweighs his own goalscoring tally.
“Different positions demand different things. I love helping the team as best as I can, regardless of which position I play in,” he declared.
“The manager knows what’s the best position for me in every game. Of course, I have my favourite position, but I’m always available for the team to play wherever is necessary.
“My targets for the season are winning the Premier League, the Champions League and qualifying for the World Cup.
“If we manage to achieve those goals, it doesn’t matter to me if I score 5 goals or 40 goals. It doesn’t really matter, to be honest.”
