Bernardo Silva has praised team-mate Phil Foden after his opener inspired a 2-0 Premier League victory over Newcastle United at the Etihad.

The Englishman opened the scoring on the 15th minute mark.

He collected the ball on the right, and drove into the box, evading the challenges of four Newcastle defenders, and his deflected shot went over Nick Pope and into the net.

Bernardo Silva doubled our lead in the second half with our 1000th Premier League home goal.

Jack Grealish played a ball to Erling Haaland down the left, the Norwegian held the ball and laid it off to Bernardo Silva who took a touch and poked it past Pope who was on the stretch.

Speaking at his post-match interview with BT Sport, Bernardo Silva spoke of the importance of his goal in the second half.

“I’m very happy because it was a tough game,” the winger exclaimed.

“My goal came in a tough moment for us because at 1-0 they took more risks and went for it, but to score my goal, it was very good.”

Foden is reaching his best form again after struggling with an injury and form, but this has been a defining week for the 22-year-old, who has stared in both of City’s game this week.

Foden is so good, he’s one of those players that can decide matches for you,” Silva said.

“He can take on one or two players and score a goal and I’m happy for him because he went through a difficult period because of his injury.

“He’s back and we are very happy to have him with us because like he showed today, he can solve some of our problems in games.”

As the team head into the latter stages, the Portuguese wants the team to keep pushing, with a lot of trophies still up for grabs this season.

“I think the team is in good spirit, we know how difficult it is to compete each season in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup.

“We’ve had some tough moments this season but we want to compete and we want to do our best knowing that it is going to be tough in these final few months.

“It’s not going to be easy but we are going to fight for all the trophies we can this season.”
