The 18-year-old was hugely impressive in the 3-1 victory at RB Leipzig, assisting the opening goal for Phil Foden in an all-round superb performance.
Pep Guardiola described Lewis as one of the best players he’s ever trained after the game as we secured our second successive win in this season’s Champions League.
And Brown, who was pitchside in the Red Bull Arena for Matchday Live, said it showed his influence as he remained on the pitch ahead of our two late goals.
“When Rico Lewis steps into the middle of the pitch, he’s in control, has possession and gets on the ball,” he said.
“Still when there’s lot of substitutions to be made with lots of midfielders, he’s staying on the pitch and contributing in a big way.
“It was a big performance. This is the Champions League and a tough place to come and he looked so cool and cultured.”
City clinched the victory with late goals from Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku to move top of Group G.
Alvarez’s 18-yard curler has been nominated for the Champions League Goal of the Week and former winger Shaun Wright-Phillips was impressed with the way he took it.
“What amazed me is how quickly he sorted his feet out because the ball pops up and he has to babystep around it to sidefoot it,” he said.
“When you have players like Doku that draws two or three players towards him, that makes two seconds but the finish is superb.”
Alvarez teed up Doku for the winner as the Belgian winger kept his cool to wrap up the victory and enjoyed a ‘Griddy’ celebration in front of the City fans in Germany.
“That’s where some attackers and wingers can struggle, not having the instinct and having to think about it,” Wright-Phillips added.
“When I met him he seemed very clam and chilled, takes everything in his stride and he did the same thing there.
“He realises he’s got time and once he’s got the first touch right, it opened up the whole goal. The finish was delightful and so was the celebration.”
