PEP GUARDIOLA PREVIEW
Pep Guardiola addressed the media on Friday afternoon ahead of our trip to Chelsea. He provided injury updates on John Stones, Manuel Akanji and Kevin De Bruyne, with the former confirmed to be out until after the international break.
“He [Stones] is injured,” confirmed Guardiola at his Friday press conference.
“He is not ready for tomorrow and we will see after international break. I don’t know (whether he will be ready) for Liverpool.
“The doctor says it’s not as bad (as first thought), but still I don’t know.
“When he is going to be fit again, he will be back.”
But the boss did have a positive update on Akanji who is available for our Premier League clash this weekend while De Bruyne continues to make positive strides in his recovery.
“Manu trained today and will travel. He is available for Sunday.
“I spoke with him [De Bruyne] and he said he feels really good,” said Pep.
“He’s not training with us yet and I don’t know when he will.
“I would say he’s in the last phase before he trains with us again.
“I think (that could be soon), but I don’t know.
“This kind of injury… it’s better we don’t put pressure on him.”
PREVIOUS MEETING
In our last trip to Stamford Bridge back in January this year, Riyad Mahrez scored a second-half winner as we secured a 1-0 victory.
We also faced the London club in May after already wrapping up the league title, claiming a 1-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium thanks to Julian Alvarez‘s goal.
LAST TIME OUT
In our last league outing Jeremy Doku scored one and claimed four assists as we moved top of the Premier League with a 6-1 victory over Bournemouth at the Etihad.
We were also in action in midweek, beating Young Boys 3-0 to secure progression into the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League.
As for Chelsea, they ended nine-man Tottenham’s unbeaten start to the campaign, registering a 4-1 victory in north London on Monday night.
