One for the ages...

In the latest instalment of #City30, presented by Nexen, we asked you - the fans - for what was your most memorable game of the Pep Guardiola and Nick Cushing eras.

There were no shortage of contenders, not least our 3-1 Champions League win over Barcelona in 2016, not forgetting that 5-3 Etihad epic against Monaco the same season.

Last term’s 4-3 European clash with Tottenham also clawed at the emotions in every which way possible.

CITYZENS AT HOME

But in the final reckoning the plaudits went to a domestic encounter from last season – our unforgettable 2-1 Premier League triumph at home to Liverpool.

The first game of 2019 proved a real clash of the heavyweights with City seeking to claw back the Merseysiders’ seven-point advantage at the top of the table.

It proved a blockbuster encounter that more than lived up to its billing.

It saw City reignite the Premier League title race as we ended Liverpool’s 20-game unbeaten start to the season and so reduce their lead at the top of the table to four points.

In a pulsating encounter, Sergio Aguero had given City the lead on 40 minutes with a stunning, near-post drive.

That came after a moment of high drama which saw Liverpool forward Sadio Mane hit the City post and John Stones scrambled the ball off the line after his attempted clearance struck goalkeeper Ederson - with data subsequently showing the ball had failed to cross by just 1.12cm.

CITY+ - Free to Cityzens until football resumes

But it looked as if both sides would have to settle for a share of the spoils after Roberto Firmino’s stooping header had levelled affairs.

However, Leroy Sane then proved the City match-winner, superbly firing home 18 minutes from time as he collected Raheem Sterling’s pass to power across Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.

It secured a victory that ultimately proved priceless in the final title reckoning and was a night that will live long in the memory.

Thursday’s #City30 topic: The best tackle.
