OPPOSING MANAGER - UNAI EMERY

Emery is a hugely experienced coach, most famous for his incredible hat-trick of UEFA Europa League titles in 2014, 2015 and 2016 with Sevilla, before winning the competition a remarkable fourth time in 2021 with Villarreal.

Emery managed Arsenal in between those successes and returned back to England with Villa, whom he superbly guided into the UEFA Champions League, where they claimed a famous 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich on their way to the quarter-finals, where their journey ended.

The Spaniard is incredibly passionate on the touchline and demands a high energy style of football, encouraging his teams to press forward with hunger and desire.

This season, he has managed to guide the Villans to a UEFA Europa League title after a 3-0 victory over Freiburg at the Tupras Stadium.

Alongside their highly impressive run in the European competition, the claret and blue side also sit fourth in the Premier League table.

PREVIOUS MEETING

Manchester City fell to a 1-0 defeat at Villa Park.

Pep Guardiola’s side were unbeaten in each of our previous nine matches in all competitions entering the clash at Villa Park, but Matty Cash’s first-half strike was enough for Unai Emery’s side to collect three points in Birmingham.

After going into the break behind, Savinho effort was cleared off the line and Erling Haaland’s late strike was ruled out for offside as we were unable to breech the Villans’ defence.

LAST TIME OUT

City’s attempts of claiming the Premier League title ended after a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.

City had travelled to the South coast knowing only victory would suffice in our quest to keep the title race alive.

In what proved a high-quality affair Pep Guardiola’s side created more than our fair share of opportunities and also saw an Antoine Semenyo effort ruled out for offside.

However, a 39th minute goal from Junior Kroupi left City facing an uphill battle.

Erling Haaland dramatically struck deep into injury time to provide a glimmer of hope.

But time ran out as the Blues’ bid to secure what would have been a seventh title under Guardiola came to a close at the penultimate stage of the season.
