Catching the ball just right as it falls and watching it arrow into the back of the net... It’s a beautiful sight.
In the latest instalment of #City30 presented by Nexen, we asked you – the fans – to nominate the best volleyed effort of the Pep Guardiola, Nick Cushing or Alan Mahon eras.
We had some sensational strikes put forward (some of which were long before Pep, Nick or Alan’s managerial tenures!), including Steve McKenzie’s outrageous effort against Tottenham Hotspur, Niclas Jensen’s lovely lash against Leeds, Raheem Sterling‘s fine finish against Everton and Yaya Toure’s wonderful winner at Watford... but there was always going to be one winner...
Kevin De Bruyne‘s belter at St James’ Park against Newcastle.
We know the Belgian midfield maestro has the ability to weave a moment of magic but this was spectacular, even for him.
As the ball was headed out to the edge of the area, KDB chested the ball under control and let it bounce before rocketing a stunning strike in off the crossbar with remarkable power and accuracy.
It was an absolutely phenomenal goal. A Goal of the Season contender for this and any campaign.
An unforgettable moment.
Saturday’s #City30 topic: the greatest assist.
Who threaded the ball through the tiniest space? Who saw the pass no-one else could see? Who floated the ball perfectly into the path of a teammate? Whose lovely flick unlocked the opposition defence?
