Ederson has insisted he remains as hungry for silverware as he was in his first campaign at the Etihad Stadium.

The goalkeeper joined City in 2017 and has since been pivotal to our success under Pep Guardiola, winning five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, a League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and last season’s Champions League.

As well as revolutionising our game with the ball at his feet, the Brazilian has been ever-reliable between the posts.

Last season he became the third quickest goalkeeper to 100 Premier League clean sheets, taking just 208 appearances to hit the landmark.

In fact, Guardiola believes the 30-year-old is continuing to go from strength to strength, stating earlier this week that Ederson ‘has matured and is getting even better.’

After a magnificent haul of trophies in his first six seasons in Manchester, Ederson is still eager to continue winning.

“It’s as if this were my first season, the ambition is always the same. We’ll try to win every competition that we play in,” he said.

“This comes a lot from the players’ objectives, our mentality, maintaining focus and staying at that level.

“Of course, it’s difficult due to injuries but I see a group with a great mentality, we’ve seen this throughout the years as winning five Premier Leagues in six years is very difficult.

“So this year is no different, we have the same mentality, the same goals.”

The goalkeeper’s statement is backed up by our impressive start to the season.

We are the only side in the Premier League with a 100% record after five matches while we have already lifted the UEFA Super Cup and got off the mark in the Champions League.

Our goalkeeper believes that constant pursuit of more comes down to the attitude amongst the squad.

He said: “We’ve created this accountability within ourselves, so we have to put into practice everything that we have been training, everything that we’ve already trained and instil this into the new players that have arrived.

“This will be very important, because of course, from the moment that you’ve won all the trophies that we did last season, other teams are going to be even more attentive to you, so we’re going to have to be ready for any circumstance.”

Ederson arrived in Manchester one year after Guardiola did.

The perfect goalkeeper for the boss’ style of play from the moment he landed, those six years together have only seen Ederson and Guardiola‘s views on how the game should be played further align.

Ahead of this weekend’s latest challenge, the visit of Nottingham Forest, Ederson spoke about the manager in glowing terms.

“Pep is an innovative coach, a manager who is able to make teams play in the way that he thinks is best, in the way that he thinks is most productive for the team,” he said.

“Anything that he asks of the players, in any way that’s different from what we’re used to, we’ll work on it because we’ve spent a lot of time together, we have Pep’s DNA already, we know the way in which he works, so it’s not as difficult for us.”
