James Trafford, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Tommy Doyle and James McAtee all featured as England cruised to a 5-0 win against Kosovo in UEFA Euro U-21 qualifying.

Victory over Albania in their previous outing had already secured the Young Lions’ qualification to next summer’s tournament, but Lee Carsley’s side turned on the style in their penultimate match of Group G.

Harwood-Bellis captained the side from the heart of defence in Pristina while Doyle started in a midfield three alongside Jacob Ramsey and Harvey Elliott, who was replaced by McAtee with 18 minutes to play.

City keeper Trafford, who spent the second part of last season on loan with Bolton Wanderers - keeping nine clean sheets out of 22 games - won his first U21 cap.

The 19-year-old gave a typically assured performance and came away with a debut shut-out for the young Lions.

England were in control from the off, with Keane Lewis-Potter grabbing the game’s opener inside two minutes before Anthony Gordon doubled the visitors’ advantage soon after.

Harwood-Bellis was replaced at the break by Charlie Cresswell as Lee Carsley’s side continued to dominate proceedings in the Kosovan capital, with Cameron Archer marking his first start for the U-21s with a clinical finish soon after the restart.

And the Aston Villa forward would grab his second and the Young Lions’ fourth 20 minutes later after latching on to a clever reverse pass from Ramsey.

That was McAtee’s cue to enter the fray, and his darting run into the box would force an own goal as stoppage time approached when Leard Sadriu’s clearance crashed off team-mate Erolind Krasniqi and into the net.

The City midfielder looked lively as soon as he stepped onto the pitch, almost grabbing a sixth when he wriggled free inside the box, but his right-footed effort was wide of the target.

Nonetheless, England were full value for a dominant victory and will hope to end their qualifying campaign on a high when they welcome Slovenia to the John Smith’s Stadium on Monday 13 June.
