Having hit the third in Tuesday night’s clash with the German champions, the Norwegian has now scored 45 goals in all competitions across 2022/23, the most in history by a player at a Premier League club.
In doing so, he’s overtaken the previous record held by both Ruud van Nistelrooy during the 2002/03 campaign and Mohamed Salah in 2017/18.
Both the former Manchester United striker and Liverpool’s Egyptian winger achieved the feat in 52 appearances. Haaland has managed to break new ground in just 39.
It’s another incredible chapter in a memorable first season at City for the Norwegian.
Moving to the Etihad Stadium last summer after two-and-a-half free-scoring seasons at Borussia Dortmund, Haaland instantly reinforced his formidable goalscoring reputation by grabbing nine goals in his first five Premier League outings, more than any other player.
And the records have kept on falling for the 22-year-old, who became the first player to net in each of his first four Premier League away games, as well as the first to score hat-tricks in three consecutive matches on home soil.
Haaland went on to become City’s leading scorer across a single campaign in March 2023, with his 39th strike of the season enough to overtake Tommy Johnson’s haul, which had stood since 1929.
And goal number 45 has seen him once again write his name into the history books.
Congratulations to Erling on breaking his latest record.
