Erling Haaland’s sterling debut season at Manchester City has seen the striker nominated for the 2023 PFA Young Player of the Year award.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Professional Footballers’ Association awards ceremony.

Fittingly, Haaland has been doubly recognised in the list of contenders for this year’s prestigious prizes after the Norwegian striker claimed a record breaking 52 goals in his maiden season at the Etihad, playing a defining role in City’s historic Treble triumph.

Those exploits saw the 23-year-old become one of three City players to make the shortlist for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award with John Stones and Kevin De Bruyne also amongst the nominees.

Not surprisingly, Haaland has also made the six-man shortlist for the Young Player gong too.

The City striker is up against Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

Moisés Caicedo, who moved from Brighton to Chelsea earlier this week, and young Seagulls star Evan Ferguson also make the shortlist with Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey completing the list of contenders.

If Haaland is successful it would mark the third year in a row that a City player has won the prestigious prize with Phil Foden having taken the award in both 2021 and 2022.

The Club boast a proud record in the category with Raheem Sterling having been voted Young Player of the Year back in 2019 with Leroy Sane similarly recognised the previous year.

Haaland will discover if he has triumphed on Tuesday 29 August, when the winners will be revealed on the PFA’s social media channels.

The PFA awards are voted for by members from England’s 92 Premier League and Football League clubs.

Everyone at City would like to send their congratulations to Erling on being shortlisted for the award.
