INJURY NEWS
Pep Guardiola has given an update on the fitness of several players ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen.
The boss briefly gave the latest news on Rodrigo – who missed Sunday’s Manchester derby with – and Kyle Walker who was forced off before half-time against United.
“We will train this afternoon and we will know exactly,” said Pep when asked who was available for FC Copenhagen.
“Rodri feels better, but Kyle, I think is out. But we have training later.”
Guardiola confirmed last Friday that he expected John Stones to miss no more than a couple of weeks after the defender was injured while on duty with England.
There was also more encouraging news on Kalvin Phillips who recently underwent surgery on his shoulder.
Pep, who suggested Phillips may be fit for the World Cup later this year, was asked if the former Leeds United star might be available for City before the tournament.
“I hope so. I hope for him and the national team,” he said.
“But I am not a physio – the doctor told me he is doing good.”
PREVIOUS MEETING
City progressed to the UEFA Cup Round of 16 after seeing off FC Copenhagen 4-3 on aggregate over two legs back in 2009.
After drawing the first leg 2-2 at the Parken Stadion, the tie was evenly poised. A Craig Bellamy double at the City of Manchester Stadium, with a late consolation goal from Martin Vingaard saw Mark Hughes’ men progress to the next round.
LAST TIME OUT
Sunday’s Premier League fixture against local rivals Manchester United saw Pep Guardiola’s dominate proceedings in the 188th Manchester derby.
City ran out 6-3 winners at the Etihad Stadium, with a hat-trick apiece from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden sinking the Red Devils.
Haaland and Foden fired City to a 4-0 lead at the break, with both players netting two goals each in the opening 45 minutes.
Anthony pulled on back for the visitors before Haaland and Foden both completed their hat-tricks with more than 15 minutes left on the clock, Anthony Martial scored two late goals after coming on from the bench.
