Fernandinho agreed a new one-year contract to the delight of Manchester City fans earlier this month.

The Brazilian midfielder extended his stay into a ninth season, expressing his belief that there was still more for him to help the Club achieve.

As Club captain, Fernandinho played a crucial role in our success during the 2020/21 campaign, leading by example both on and off the pitch.

His influence was appreciated by his team-mates and the 36-year-old hopes he can continue to play an important role within the squad.

“It is a process,” he told CityTV.

“The process started last season and there is no reason to stop. I am so glad they think that way. They appreciate my job, my role.

“If I can keep doing the same way, leading them inside the pitch off the pitch to help them improve and get better and to perform better during the games, I would be the most happy person.”
