Phil Foden has heaped praise on Kevin De Bruyne after the Belgian's goal and two assists inspired City to a 3-1 UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg victory over FC Copenhagen.

Foden found De Bruyne for the opener after just 10 minutes at Parken Stadium, before the hosts levelled shortly after the half-hour mark.

De Bruyne‘s aggressive pressing then reaped rewards as the ball deflected off his foot into the path of Bernardo Silva to flick us back in front ahead of the interval.

Deep into second half stoppage time, Foden added a third, coolly slotting in from De Bruyne‘s accurate cutback.

Foden was full of praise for his teammate after the game. He said:

“Me and Kev have built that connection now. When he makes that run I know the right time to play the pass.

“I think getting the early goal settled us a little bit, so yeah, I was delighted for us to get the early goal.

“Now it comes natural to us. It’s important to have Kev back because he’s such an important player for us. I think Kev notices the right time to make the movement and it makes my job easier for me.

“For me there’s no better player in the world at passing the ball. He’s just a pleasure to play with and is so important for us.

“It’s a special group. I enjoy every day with the lads. I look around and the determination and hunger is still there, same as last year.

“We want to all keep improving on the training pitch. When you have that determination, it goes a long way.”

The Academy graduate now has 14 goals and 10 assists across all competitions this season and after his appearance tonight, became the youngest Englishman to reach 50 appearances in the UEFA Champions League.

Foden is relishing every minute on the pitch and pinpointed what he believes is the key to his stunning form.

“It’s the most run of games I’ve had as well in a City shirt. When you play a lot then you get a lot of rhythm and you start playing your best football. I’m feeling good this year and helping the team the best I can.

“Like I said when you get a run of games you find your feet, you start getting connections with other players. I think that’s what it is down to. I prefer to play in the pockets, and today I played wide and did an alright job.

“I just feel alive [in central areas]. I feel involved in the game and you can get into the game there. You can play a few passes and build your confidence.

“I’ve always played in there since a young age in the number 10 role so it’s something I’ve been used to.”
