The Englishman’s double takes his tally across all competitions to 11 for the season, with further strikes from Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku, added to by an own goal from Ben Jackson, securing our passage into the next round.
The victory also saw the return to action for Kevin De Bruyne, who assisted our fifth goal of the afternoon with a precise cross to the back post for Doku to finish.
Foden, who was named as the Man of the Match after another electric display, was overjoyed with his personal contribution to the victory.
“I picked up the ball in a tight area and thought I’d just put my laces through it and was delighted to see it hit the back of the net,” he said.
“It was a nice little flick off Kovacic to find me [for second goal], I just passed it in the corner and I’m delighted to see that one go in as well.
“I’m enjoying my football at the moment, being in the pockets and in between the lines. It’s where I want to be.
“I need to keep helping the team with goals and assists and be that decisive player. I’m trying to do that every game.”

The Academy graduate also praised the team’s patience and determination to break down the defensive block of the visitors, who spent majority of the contest camped inside their own half.
“We’re all buzzing with the result. It was a bit difficult to break them down. The first goal I scored was important, then we had more rhythm and we took our chances well.
“I’m delighted with the result, not an easy side when they give everything to beat us but I thought the way we handled ourselves, didn’t get impatient, carried on playing our football – we’re delighted with the result.
“The team handles it well. We seem to come against a low block quite often. We know what to expect, we just need to be patient, find the spaces and keep switching and hopefully they’ll open up and get tired.
“We attacked at the right time and aggressively so it’s a great result.”
