The German international is the seventh City captain to lift the FA Cup trophy and their second under Pep Guardiola’s leadership.
The 32-year-old scored both of City’s goals, with the first the fastest ever scored in an FA Cup final – 12 seconds – and provided his humble thoughts on the sublime strike.
He said: “Obviously we know how we want to play the kick off and we aim to do that, to go long for Erling and try to get a second ball.
“It just placed amazingly for me and I just had to hit it. Obviously it was a quite good strike. It was an amazing feeling.
“To win a final is always special. Every trophy is special.
“This group deserves it. We played really well, the second half was amazing and we deserved to lift another trophy.”
The win over United has left the Treble open for the taking for City who travel to Istanbul next week to face Inter in the Champions League final.

And with confidence oozing out of Guardiola’s City team, Gundogan acknowledged the challenge City face with it being no easy feat to achieve.
“It would be something that will only be for the second time in history,” said Gundogan.
“I try not to think of it now because it is another final. We play in finals to win them. Second time in that final in three years is already a great achievement. Now we have to do it. That is the target for next week.”
