City captain Ilkay Gundogan was thrilled to get his hands on the Premier League trophy and has said he is already looking to lift two more pieces of silverware this season.

Pep Guardiola’s side have two finals in the next three weeks – an FA Cup final against Manchester United and a Champions League final against Inter.

And the German international is feeling confident of leading City to further success but admits he has no secrets as to how he’s guided the team to a 12th successive Premier League win following our 1-0 victory over Chelsea.

“I have no secrets,” said Gundogan. “Maybe my secret is to stay calm and stay patient. I focused on the important things and that is the success of the team.

“This is what we’re doing day by day. Today is special, it feels more special than previous years. Because of the atmosphere in the training ground, we’re here for each other, we fight for each other in tough periods.

“Two more finals to go, we’re looking forward to it. My arms are ready to lift two more titles.”

The 32-year-old has been a key cog within Guardiola’s team, contributing eight goals and five assists in 30 league games.

And talking about what he has offered in the heart of City’s midfield throughout the 2022/23 campaign, Gundogan said: “It’s adaptation. The holding position requires different things to the offensive roles. This is what Pep [Guardiola] appreciates about me.

“I’m not special in times of giving decisive goals and assists, my qualities are in terms of bringing my teammates in the best possible situations.

“Leading them to these kind of simple situations. My football is simple, I try to make it as simple.”

On where he thinks the turning point was in the season for City to overcome an eight-point deficit in their run to the title win, Gundogan added: “Maybe something happened after the Forest game away. We were in full control and conceded after the 85th minute and lost two points.

“Maybe something changed that day. That shows how competitive the league is. The Premier League is the best league in the world. To win it three in a row, it’s unbelievable.”
